Torre dei Lamberti

The Torre dei Lamberti is a medieval tower in Verona, 84 meters high, which rises from Piazza Erbe, the ancient Roman Forum, in the historic center of the city.

The tower was commissioned by the powerful Lamberti family, who began to have it built in the 11th century. The lower part in terracotta and tuff blocks dates back to that period.

In 1140, in the middle of the communal age, it was elected as a civic tower and the first bell was installed, of which nothing is known. In 1272 the statutes established that, in addition to the Arengo bell (later called Rengo, after the assembly that called in meeting), there was also another one, the Marangona (derives from "marangon", which in the Veronese dialect means carpenter ), to signal the beginning and end of work activities.

The tower is now open to the public and you can go up to the bell cells thanks to the stairs or the lift, thus enjoying the panoramic view of the city.
